Types of Touch Screen Laptops
The touch screen laptops we know of today that are becoming increasingly popular, especially with the support by Microsoft’s Windows 7, are actually one of two types of mobile touch screen computers. The first is more industry specific and much less versatile. These are actually used more often than people would pay attention to but because they don’t resemble traditional desktop or laptop computers we don’t think about them when we hear of touch screen laptops. The other is what you would find when you go shopping for a laptop. These are also known as convertible touch screen laptops because they can perform like a standard laptop or transform into a touch screen laptop tablet.
Also known as slate PCs or tablet PCs these are static, one piece devices and much of the machine is a large screen. It is often used in restaurants when waiters take your orders or by nurses who take notes on their feet. Because of the larger screen size than your typical commercial laptops, it is easier to make hand written notes. The size makes it easier to carry in your arms while writing at the same time. It makes sense since the larger screens and their dedicated purpose is for the user to input a much more limited range of commands. For that reason they do not have keyboards or mouse but these peripherals can be used if purchased and hooked up.
The more common touch screen laptops are those that offer a swivel screen and comes with a keyboard and touch pad. Popular brands like the Touch Smart line of HP touch screen laptops are among this type of mobile computers. The improved screen display is really what sells these things since most touch recognition systems tend to negatively impact the brightness and resolution of the screen. Most manufacturers have learned to overcome this and thus can offer touch screen capability with a high quality screen.
