Are you stuck with a bunch of old printer ink cartridges and don’t know what to do with them?  If so, there are a lot of different things you can do to help the environment and your wallet at the same time!  This post will show you a few options for printer cartridge recycling.

Most of the cartridge manufacturing companies will accept your used cartridges free of charge.  This is great on the surface, it seems like you are doing something better than throwing them away.  The problem is that they are going to clean them up, refill them, and sell them right back to you!  Ink cartridges can be reused a lot of times before degrading, and they plan to make the most of that!

Instead, try finding a store in your area that will refill your old ink cartridges.  This is the same process as the big ink companies do, but it saves you a ton of money.  When it comes to ink, there aren’t many things on the planet that are more expensive.  Ounce for ounce, printer ink is more expensive than gold and the finest champagnes.  These companies will take your old cartridge and give you a refilled one at a great price.

Another way, that I haven’t tried, is to refill them yourself.  People seem to get great results from this, but it can be difficult to do.  Printer ink in large quantities is extremely toxic and will stain anything that it touches, so if you choose to take this route be sure to do the proper research before hand to make sure that you can pull it off without having any problems.  Reports say that an ink cartridge can be refilled for only a few bucks, so if it works you will save an incredible amount of money.

Recycling printers and their accessories isn’t tough to do, it’s just a matter of figuring out which method works the best for your situation.
